Fees applicable to Aircraft Registration

The registration and operation of aircrafts in Malta is subject to the following fees:

Aircraft Registration Fees
The following are the fees payable to the Civil Aviation Directorate (“CAD”) with respect to applications for the registration of an aircraft. Please note that the below fees are as they stand as at April 2020.
- Charge payable in respect of aeroplanes having an empty weight not exceeding 150kg, a wing area if not less than 10 square metres, and a wing loading not exceeding 10kg per square metre at empty weight and which are designed to carry not more than 2 persons – €58.23
- Aircrafts whose maximum take-off mass does not exceed 750kg – €69.88
- Aircrafts whose maximum take-off mass does exceeds 750kg but not 2730kg – €139.76
- Aircrafts whose maximum take-off mass does exceeds 2730kg but not 5700kg – €209.64
- Aircrafts whose maximum take-off mass does exceeds 5700kg but not 15 tonnes – €279.52
- Aircrafts whose maximum take-off mass does exceeds 15 tonnes but not 50 tonnes – €419.29
- Aircrafts whose maximum take-off mass exceeds 50 tonnes – €€698.81
Fees Applicable to Air Operators' Certificates
As at April 2020, the following are the fees payable to the CAD in respect of an AOC. The fee is based on the maximum total weight authorised of the heaviest aircraft listed in the AOC. Additionally, it is to be noted that upon submitting an application for the first issue of an AOC, the applicant must pay a down-payment of 25% of the charge which shall be forfeited by the applicant if the application is withdrawn.
- If the aircraft with the highest maximum total weight authorised does not exceed 1,500kg – €698.81 upon first issue of an AOC and €349.41 upon subsequent issues of an AOC.
- If the aircraft with the highest maximum total weight authorised exceeds 1,500kg but does not exceed 4,000kg – €1,164.69 upon first issue of an AOC and €582.34 upon subsequent issues of an AOC.
- If the aircraft with the highest maximum total weight authorised exceeds 4,000kg but does not exceed 15,000kg – €11,646.87 upon first issue of an AOC and €5,823.43 upon subsequent issues of an AOC.
- If the aircraft with the highest maximum total weight authorised exceeds 15,000kg but does not exceed 50,000kg – €23,293.73 upon first issue of an AOC and €11,646.87 upon subsequent issues of an AOC.
- If the aircraft with the highest maximum total weight authorised exceeds 50,000kg – €46,587.47 upon first issue of an AOC and €23,293.73 upon subsequent issues of an AOC.
Fees Applicable to Air Operators' Licences
As at April 2020,upon submitting an application for the issue of an AOL, the applicant is obliged to pay an initial fee to the CAD, as indicated below. For every year following the first 12 months of validity of an AOL from its date of issue, the licence holder must also pay the CAD an annual fee, as indicated below. The fees outlined below are based on the maximum authorised seating capacity of the largest aircraft which is used by the applicant and listed in his AOC or which is operated by him under a wet lease agreement.
- If the maximum authorised seating capacity is less than 20
- Initial Issue Fee – €1,397.62
- Annual Fee – €465.87
- If the maximum authorised seating capacity is more than 20 but less than 49
- Initial Issue Fee – €2,329.37
- Annual Fee – €1,397.62
- If the maximum authorised seating capacity is more than 50 but less than 99
- Initial Issue Fee – €3,494.06
- Annual Fee – €2,320.37
- If the maximum authorised seating capacity is more than 100 but less than 199
- Initial Issue Fee – €5,823.43
- Annual Fee – €3,494.06
- If the maximum authorised seating capacity is more than 200
- Initial Issue Fee – €8,152.81
- Annual Fee – €5,823.43
