Overview

Bank licence applications must be submitted to the Malta Financial Services Authority (MFSA) as the body responsible for issuing licences to credit and financial institutions.

It is recommended that prior to the submission of a licence application, the applicant should meet up with the MFSA to discuss the proposed business and to request any preliminary clarifications. Gonzi & Associates Advocates will be able to set-up such a preliminary meeting with the MFSA on your behalf and will assist you in preparation for as well as attend the meeting with you.

Upon any decision to proceed with the licence application, the firm is also able to assist you with all aspects of your licence application including ensuring that all licence requirements are satisfied. The licence application will be processed and determined by the MFSA within a six month period.

In the event that the applicant has a credit institution licence in any other Member State, such applicant need not acquire another licence in Malta but may simply avail of passporting procedures to provide services or to establish a branch in Malta.
