According to recent reports, up to 20 different Fantasy Sport companies have applied for a Malta Gaming Licence with the Malta Gaming Authority (MGA).
Sources close to Yahoo Finance said that the Malta gaming licence, which allows a fantasy sports company to operate across Europe, is in high demand. The ‘controlled skill games licence’, issued by the MGA, allows non-EU companies to operate in Malta as well as in many other EU countries, except in those countries which adopt strict daily fantasy rules, such as England and France.
Last January, one of the two biggest companies in daily fantasy sports, DraftKings, was granted a controlled skill games licence. In fact, DraftKings was the first fantasy operator to get this type of licence, whilst Oulala was the first B2B fantasy operator to get the licence.
Yahoo Finance moreover reports that two other fantasy sports operators have also obtained licences, although it did not identify them.
