Practice Areas: Gaming, IT & Telecoms > Gaming & Betting Law > Remote Gaming in Malta
Overview
The iGaming sector is one of the fastest growing sectors in Malta. Malta was the first EU member state to regulate remote gaming, believing that regulation, as opposed to prohibition, would ensure the integrity and fairness of the games and safety of players.
The relatively new Maltese legislative gaming framework has broadened the regulatory scope to increase the Malta Gaming Authority‘s oversight and aims at establishing a technology and game neutral regime, allowing itself the possibility of extending its reach to the offering of any kind of gaming activity. In this manner, innovation is not stifled but allowed to take its course whilst still ensuring that regulatory objectives are met.
